Free more RAM on your phone

|

>>> Method 1: Flight mode:

Put your phone in "Flight mode" with Psiloc System Tools.Install System Tools, open it and select "Flight mode". This way you can restart the phone without your SIM card so there will be no running phone tasks in the background. Now you can have up to 3,5 MB of free RAM!

Note: ironically enough, Flight mode doesn't work when Smart Launcher is installed, at least in my case.
But i've also heard several reports of people who have both apps running without any problems.

>>> Method 2: Smart Launcher trick:

Install Smart Launcher and open it. Go to Options, Settings and put Launcher ON.
Now plug in your charger and switch off your phone. Wait until the battery meter appears and short press the Menu button (don't hold).
The menu should appear and now you can have 3,5 to 4,5 MB free RAM! (Hold Menu button to check RAM).

The trick is that with the charger plugged in, the phone must get a minimum software support for charging, even when
the phone is switched off. And somehow Smart Launcher has still got it's shortcut running and that's the Menu button. So when
you press the Menu button, you go directly to the Menu without any other phone tasks running in the background so
you trick the phone and you have more free RAM!
Note: when you unplug the charger, the phone will switch off.

>>> Method 3: Menu :

it frees a little about 100~200 KB but I guess it's useful sometime

Close your menu not by selecting the right selection key "exit", or pressing the menu key another time, they only hide the menu app but do not close it, to close it select the left selection key "option" and scroll down and select "exit"

So when you open an app needs more ram reopen menu and close it, it's useful when play low bit rate video in real player paradise.

Increase Font Size On Nokia E50

|

You’ll need a memory card, a file manager ( e.g. Y-Browser or ActiveFile).

1. Open your file manager and navigate to Z:\resource\Fonts

2. Check the names of the files (these are the fonts that are actually used); they have extension .ttf and most likely they are nosnr60.ttf, nssb60.ttf, nstsb60.ttf and S60ZDIGI.ttf; write them down, you’ll need them later

3. On your memory card create a folder called resource and inside it a folder called Fonts

4. Copy the new fonts to the Fonts folder on your memory card (there are numerous fonts available on the internet for free; try a few of them, experiment and see which fits the best)

5. Rename them in the following order: – nosnr60.ttf regular (normal) font – nssb60.ttf bold font – nstsb60.ttf font for titles

Note: if your font files have different names rename them accordingly. Font names on your memory card must match those on phone memory in Z:\resource\Fonts.

6. Reboot the phone

If you want to switch back to the default font simply erase the whole resource folder from your memory card. If you take your memory card out of the phone the default font will be used.

A Software can also increases font sizes use it for any s60...

Key in Proxy settings for access point in NOKIA S40 v2 v3

|

As we all know, Nokia doesn't allow one to specify a proxy for an Access Point in Series 40 v2 and v3 phones (6131, 6133, 3110c ...) etc.

In its recent versions of the Series40 OS (v2 & v3), Nokia has removed the ability to specify a proxy server associated with an access point. Therefore, those with WAP network plans (such as TMobileWeb users, Airtel NOP users) are unable to use JAVA programs that require internet access (such as Opera Mini, Google Maps, ...).

However, Nokia does allow users to create a provisioning document on their computer. This document, created in wbxml, specifies an access point along with a proxy. The S40 phone recognizes the configuration settings in the document and allows the JAVA midlet to use those instead, thereby allowing the midlet to access the proxy. Its very simple to implement.

The files included in the zip provide some sample xml documents, and the associated provisioning (.prov) files.

Click here to download Nokia S40 proxy settings for JAVA applications ZIP file

figure it out yourself, genius.
NokiaJAVAProxy.wml: The wml file that you can edit if you need/want different proxy settings.
NokiaJAVAProxy.prov: The actual binary wbxml provisioning file that should be sent to your phone (via bluetooth or usb). This can NOT be manually edited.

---------------------------------
QUICK START:
1: Push the "NokiaJAVAProxy.prov" file to your phone using Bluetooth. send the file via "send File..." option only do not copy paste to your phone ("object push", not file transfer). If your are unable to do it, just transfer it to any bluetooth supported phone and send that file via bluetooth to your phone.

2: The phone will recognize the configuration settings, and will prompt you to save them. Don't worry if it says "no supported applications".

3: Go to Settings->Configuration->Default Config. Settings, and change the default config to [the name of the configuration we just loaded].

That's it! JAVA midlets like Opera Mini, Google Maps, MGMaps, etc... should work now.

Detailed README file is inside the zip file.

Multimedia Card

|

Multimedia Card (MMC) is one of Flash Memory type. MMC uses two technology :
1. ROM Technology for read only application.
2. Flash Technology for read/write application.

MMC for Phone

1. First MMC technology is MMC Standard. Uses 7-pin Standard Multimedia Card. Only has 2 MB/s max transfer data.

2. Next MMC technology is RS-MMC (RS = Reduced Size). The difference between RS-MMC and MMC Standard is, RS-MMC only has 1/2 dimension size than MMC Standard. RS-MMC still uses 7 pin Standard Multimedia Card. Only has 2 MB/s transfer data.

3. Next MMC technology is HS-MMC (HS = High Speed). Using 13 pin Multimedia Card. Have 8 configuration transfer data. And max transfer data is 52 MB/s and the min is 20 MB/s, depends on device support transfer data.

4. Next MMC Technology is Dual Voltage Multimedia Card, which has function host in 1.8 V and 3 V. Note: 1.8 V and 3 V are just the middle operation value. The truth is : For 1.8 V host have range operate 1.65 ~ 1.95 V and for 3 V host have range operate 2.7 ~ 3.6 V.

5. Next MMC Technology is SecureMMC - this multimedia card is used for security requirements of future consumer, business and industrial applications (such as mobile e-commerce, banking and copyright protection)

So :
1) For dimension, Multimedia Card has two types:
- MMC Standard
- RS-MMC
2) For Speed, Multimedia Card has two types:
- 7 pin
- 13 pin
3) For Host, Multimedia Card has two types:
- 1.8 V
- 3 V
4) For Security, Multimedia card has two types:
- Not Secure
- Secure

TIPS and TRICK for Nokia S60 Phone

|

*To check the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) :
*#06#

*Information you get from the IMEI :
XXXXXX XX XXXXXX X

TAC FAC SNR SP

TAC = Type approval code
FAC = Final assembly code
SNR = Serial number
SP = Spare

* To check the phone Software Version (Firmware) :
*#0000#

*Information you get from the it : (e.g.)
V 5.0604.0
23-01-06
RM-51

1ST Line = Software Version (Firmware)
2ND Line = The date of the software release
3RD Line = Phone type

* Displays Bluetooth (BT) Device Address:
*#2820#

*Displays MAC address of the WLAN adapter:

*#62209526#
this is available only in the newer devices that support WLAN.

*To enter the service menu:
*#92702689#

Displays Serial number (IMEI).
Displays Production date (MM/YY).
Displays Purchase date (MM/YY). You can only enter the date once.
Displays Date of last repair (0000=No repair).
The next screen has Transfer User Data.
To exit this menu, turn the phone off and then back on.

*Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) :
Enhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the Algebraic Code Excitation Linear Prediction compression technology. This technology allows for much greater voice quality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate CODEC. The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more). Also this improves call quality but decreases battery life by about 5%.

*3370#
EFR will be activated after a reboot of the phone (consumes more power).

#3370#
EFR will be switched off after a reboot of the phone.

*Half Rate Codec (HR):
Half Rate will give you bad sound quality, which gives the service provider the opportunity to have more calls on the network; and you might get a lower charge from them. (Will give you 30% longer talk - time).

*4720#
Half Rate coded will be activated after a reboot of the phone (better standby time).

#4720#
Half Rate coded will be de-activated after a reboot of the phone.

*Clock Stopping:
*#746025625#

To check if the Sim -Clock can be Stopped.
{NOTE:-This option is dependant on your service provider network. }

*CHECK SIM-LOCK:
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Also don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone:
COUNTRY-LOCK
NETWORK-LOCK
PROVIDER-LOCK
SIMCARD-LOCK

The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is:
#PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)#

MASTERCODE = 1234567890
Y = NUMBER 1 TO 4

The master code is a secret code. The code has 10 digits. It must be computed with a program e.g. SmartDCT4Calc and/or DCT 4 code Calculator from IMEI etc.

"Y" Shows the status of the network-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4". The "4" is for the sim-card lock.

*SIM-LOCK CHECKS:
#PW+1234567890+1# = GIVES PROVIDER-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+2# = GIVES NETWORK-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+3# = GIVES COUNTRY-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+4# = GIVES SIM-CARD-LOCK STATUS

*Reset Wallet Code:
*#7370925538#

This will factory reset the wallet, and you will have to give it another code. Please type the code in while on the stand by screen.
{NOTE:- you will lose all previously saved data in your wallet.}

*Restore Factory Settings:
*#7780#
{NOTE:- Your default lock code is 12345}

*Soft Format:
*#7370#
Your default lock code is 12345
Also make sure your battery is at least 75% full.

Changing Game zip file to jar

|

* 2 methods of changing the zip file to jar.

1st Method :
• Let me take the example of a file named capoeira _.zip.
• At the time of downloading the file, it will ask you if you want to open it or save to PC.
• Select the option to save it to your PC.
• Now rename the file name from capoeira_.zip to capoeira_.jar
• Save the file.
• It will be saved in .jar format now.

2nd Method :
• Lets say you have the file capoeira_ in zip format in your PC.
• Extract the contents to a folder on your PC using WinZip.
• Don’t delete the zip file. You will need it.
• Open the folder.
• Go to "Tools" >> "Folder Options"
• Go to "View" tab
• Uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types"
• Save the changes and exit the folder.
• Now you will notice that the the zip file is named capoeira_.zip

K750 W800 Tips and Tricks

Hacking the File System of the K750

File System Hacking:
With access to the file system, you can change many system settings, delete predefined content, change menu icons and layout, silence the camera, remove operator logo, and many other cool things.

The techniques below assume you have some understanding of how to access the internal file system of your phone.

1. Remove SMS storage limitation
You can remove the storage limitation so that you can store more than 500 smss. This trick works by changing the sms message store to the tpa folder, where the message limitation is not in force

Copy the file /ifs/settings/messaging/pref_store.txt from the phone to the computer, make a backup, then edit it to read /tpa instead of /smsdata, then delete the file from the phone then copy in the new version.

Now you need to create the message store in the /tpa folder. Create the following folder structure in the /tpa folder:

/tpa/messaging
/tpa/messaging/sms
/tpa/messaging/sms/msg
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF/pending
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF/sm
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF/sr
/tpa/system/messaging/sms

Restart the phone. You can now stored as many messages as you like ;-)

HOWEVER, in practice you can only store about 1000 messages, beyond and the inbox access becomes painfully slow. In theory you can store 40000 or more.

2. Camera Sounds - Change
The camera sounds depend on the files camerashutter.3gp and camerafocus.3gp. You can change the camera sounds by replacing these files with your own versions. The new sound files must have the same names as the old ones, and be in 3gp format, preferably audio only.

Delete the existing files from /tpa/preset/system/sound and then copy in the new versions.

3. Camera Sounds - Silence

Method 1: Disable Camera Sound completely

The camera sounds come from the files camerashutter.3gp and camerafocus.3gp. If these files dont exist, the camera is silenced. This means the camera makes no sound even if the phone is not in Silent Mode. You could also delete only camerafocus.3gp for example, if you only want the shutter sound to be heard.
The camera sound files can be deleted from /tpa/preset/system/sound

Method 2: Enable Silent Mode for camera sounds

This method will enable you to disable the camera sounds by turning on Silent Mode. When not in silent mode, camera sounds will operate as normal.
Copy the customize.xml file in /tpa/preset/custom to the computer and make a backup. Open customize.xml in an editor and change the following setting from false to true:
true Save the file then delete the existing customize.xml on the phone and copy in the new version.

Important: You will have to do either a settings or master reset before this trick will take effect. Once you do, you will be able to silence the camera on demand, simply by putting the phone into silent mode.

4. Backup Games and Java Apps

All Java midlets can be backed up by copying the jar and jad files from the phone to your computer.

The jar and jad files at can be found here: /tpa/preset/system/ams

To backup your games, simply copy the jar and jad files in this folder to your computer.
The games will need to be reinstalled if you delete them from the phone and then later want to reinstall. You cant just copy the old files back into the ams folder. But you can use the old jar and jad files you copied from the phone to reinstall the game (the same way you would install a game normally)

5. Deleting Pre-Installed Content and Games

You cannot delete the pre-installed content from the handset itself, but with access to the internal file system you can delete ANY pre-installed content you want. Simply browse to the folder where the preset content is stored and delete it.

Here are the folder locations for the various pre-installed content:

Games: /tpa/preset/system/ams.
Games: /tpa/preset/default/java
Sounds: /tpa/user/audio
Sounds: /tpa/preset/default/audio
Images: /tpa/user/image
Images: /tpa/preset/default/image
Themes: /tpa/user/theme
Themes: /tpa/preset/default/theme
Video: /tpa/user/video
Frames: /tpa/preset/system/multimedia/pe/frames
Frames: /tpa/preset/system/multimedia/pe/funlayer
Clipart: /tpa/preset/system/multimedia/pe/clipart

Notes on Pre-installed content: Sometimes pre-installed content has a shortcut in the user folder pointing to the actual image which is stored in the /tpa/preset/default folder. For example, the shortcut file El Trumpet.mp3.@ in /tpa/user/audio points to the actual image El Trumpet.mp3 which is in /tpa/preset/default/audio. Delete both the shortcut and the actual image.

6. Change System sounds

The various system sounds are stored at /tpa/preset/system/sound. If you replace them with your own versions you can change the sound the phone makes for a given system sound. For example you can replace the noisy lowbattery.mid with something more subtle.

Replacement sounds should have the same name and audio format (mid, mp3, amr) as the original, and be about the same length.

To replace a system sound, delete the existing sound from /tpa/preset/system/sound and copy in your own version.

7. Change Startup and Shutdown sounds and Images

Startup and shutdown images and sounds are located in various locations. To change, simple delete the existing file, and copy in your file with the same name. Here are the various names, file sizes, formats and locations:

Boot image: SPLASH in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image displayed at boot up, called the Splash Screen. Can be in gif, bmp or png format. Animation not supported.

Startup Image: STARTUP_IMAGE_SEMC in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image shown after the Splash screen. This image can be chosen by the user in settings/display/start-up screen so you dont need internal file system access to change this image.

Shutdown Image: SHUTDOWN_IMAGE_SEMC in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image that is shown when the phone is shutting down. Can be in gif, bmp or png format. Animation is supported, but total number of frames should be kept low, and gif should not be set to repeat animation, as this will slow down the shutdown.

Startup Sound: STARTUP_SOUND_SEMC.mid or STARTUP_SOUND_SEMC.mp3 in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the sound that plays when the phone starts up.

Shutdown Sound: SHUTDOWN_SOUND_SEMC.mid or SHUTDOWN_SOUND_SEMC.mp3 in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the sound that plays when the phone is shutting down.

8. Delete SE Web links in user folders

Sony Ericsson or your operator install links at the top of every folder in your phones file system to websites with their content. These are pretty useless to most of us, and serve only to clutter up access to our files. The links are stored in two locations within the file system.
Firstly, as xml files in folders within /tpa/preset/system/custmenu. For example the folder GAMES_HOOK_1 might contain an xml file pointing to the operators game download page, as well as an image used as the icon.
Secondly, the links are cached in the files cust_menu_data.dat and cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat that sit in /tpa/preset/system/custmenu.

To get rid of an operator link, you need to delete the folder in custmenu for the relevant link, then delete the files cust_menu_data.dat and cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat.

Things u dont know about nokia

|

1) The ringtone "Nokia tune" is actually based on a 19th century guitar work named "Gran Vals" by Spanish musician Francisco Tárrega. The Nokia Tune was originally named "Grande Valse" on Nokia phones but was changed to "Nokia Tune" around 1998 when it became so well known that people referred to it as the "Nokia Tune."

2) The world's first commercial GSM call was made in 1991 in Helsinki over a Nokia-supplied network, by Prime Minister of Finland Harri Holkeri, using a Nokia phone.

3) Nokia is currently the world's largest digital camera manufacturer, as the sales of its camera-equipped mobile phones have exceeded those of any conventional camera manufacturer.

4) The "Special" tone available to users of Nokia phones when receiving SMS (text messages) is actually Morse code for "SMS". Similarly, the "Ascending" SMS tone is Morse code for "Connecting People," Nokia's slogan. The "Standard" SMS tone is Morse code for "M" (Message).

5) The Nokia corporate font (typeface) is the AgfaMonotype Nokia Sans font, originally designed by Eric Spiekermann. Its mobile phone User's Guides Nokia mostly used the Agfa Rotis Sans font.

6) In Asia, the digit 4 never appears in any Nokia handset model number, because 4 is considered unlucky in many parts of Southeast/East Asia.

7) Nokia was listed as the 20th most admirable company worldwide in Fortune's list of 2006 (1st in network communications, 4th non-US company).

8) Unlike other modern day handsets, Nokia phones do not automatically start the call timer when the call is connected, but start it when the call is initiated. (Except for Series 60 based handsets like the Nokia 6600)

9) Nokia is sometimes called aikon (Nokia backwards) by non-Nokia mobile phone users and by mobile software developers, because "aikon" is used in various SDK software packages, including Nokia's own Symbian S60 SDK.

10) The name of the town of Nokia originated from the river which flowed through the town. The river itself, Nokianvirta, was named after the old Finnish word originally meaning sable, later pine marten. A species of this small, black-furred predatory animal was once found in the region, but it is now extinct.

Half Rate will give you bad soundquality, which gives the serviceprovider the opportunity to have more calls on the network, and you might get a lower charge from them. - Will give you 30% longer talk-time.

Sim Clock Stop : *#746025625# apparently only works for 3 minuts.

*#92702689# - takes you to a secret menu with 6 choices
1) shows the serial nr.
2) shows when the cel phone was made mmyy
3) shows when the the cel. phone was purchased mmyy
4) shows how many times the cel. phone has been repaired.
5) makes u capebel of transferring user data if u have the gear for it
6) shows how many houres the phone has been on

Increase Font Size On Nokia E50

|

You’ll need a memory card and a file manager :

The JAMES BOND Trick

|

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated.

Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute".

Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it.

The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying

Make your Symbian Series 60 phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth

| Tuesday, June 17, 2008

With this tutorial, you will learn how to make your Symbian Series 60 (WAP 2.0) phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth. The advantages of this are that when your phone is within bluetooth range of your computer, you will have FREE and UNLIMITED mobile internet!!

REQUIREMENTS

1) a Symbian Series 60 phone with WAP 2.0 (Nokia 6600 or 7610 *only* for now) 2) an Internet Router (LAN) 3) Patience! 4) Follow this tutorial in its order GIVEN because some parts can only be done before others and vice versa.

What to do on your phone

1) Download the latest Nokia PC Suite for your phone. For the 6600, it has its own PC Suite which you can find on Nokia.com. For the 7610, download its own PC Suite (whatever it is) from the 7610
2) In your PC Suite, make a new profile/access point/WAP Connection profile (called Access Point in your phone). In the new profile here are the settings that you should change. The rest don't touch.
Set the name to "Bt" (no quotation marks). The capitilization of the B is necessary.
3) The Data Bearer should be GSM Data/HSCSD
4) The Dial-up number must be something, but it can be anything except nothing (make sure you put something in the field)
5) The User name must be a user name on your computer when you log in.
6) The password is the password of your username that you entered for the username. If the username has no password, MAKE AND ACTIVATE ONE (it's mandatory for this) via Control Panel --> User Accounts.
7) Authentication: Normal
8) Use PPP Compression: YES
9) Use Login Script: YES
10) Login Script. This is why you are using PC Suite and not just entering this into your phone directly, the script is complicated. Copy this DIRECTLY and make sure it's IDENTICAL to this script in your profile:

Code:

CHARMAP [windows-1252]
LOOP 10
{
SEND "CLIENT"+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
"SERVER" OK
}
}
EXIT KErrNoAnswer$

OK:
EXIT

11) Save this new Remote Connection (Access point) to your phone via PC Suite.
12) Download gnubox.sis from http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/gnubox6600.SIS
13) Install gnubox into your phone.

You are ALMOST done with your phone settings :)... the last settings will have to be done AFTER the rest of these instructions.

What to do on your PC

1) Make sure you deactivate the Bluetooth COM Port that mRouter is using to connect to your phone. OR, just make sure that you stop Connection Manager from using your phone through bluetooth period- just uncheck bluetooth as a connection option there.
2) Go to Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options --> Modems --> New. On the first page of the modem installation, CHECK "I will select from a list".
3) Choose "Communications cable between 2 Computers" from the "(Standard Modem Types)" list.
4) Select the COM Port to be the COM Port that your phone connects to via Bluetooth Serial Port.
5) Once you're done and brought back to your modems list, highlight the new modem, click "Properties", and make sure your modem is at the highest speed: 115200 bytes/second.
6) Now, go to Control Panel --> Network Connections. Select "Create a New Connection" from the left margin (it'll start up a wizard).
7) Choose "Set up an Advanced Connection", then "Next".
8) Choose "Accept incoming connections", then "Next".
9) Check the “Communications cable between two computers” modem that you creating, then "Next".
10) Select "Do not allow virtual private connections", then "Next".
11) Check the username that you select in your phone setup step 5, then click "Next".
12) Make sure all options are checked in the list, then highlight "Internet Protocall TCP/IP" and then click "Properties". Click "Specify TCP/IP Addresses" and input this range:
From: 10.0.2.2 To: 10.0.2.254. Now click OK, then Next, and then Finish the wizard. You will return to Network Connections.
13) If you have a connection called "Bluetooth Network" in Network Connections, right-click on it and click "Disable". It should be greyed out now.
14) Run cmd.exe which is found in Start Menu --> Programs/All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt.
15) Enter these commands into cmd.exe after reading 15b.

Code:

netsh router ip nat install
netsh router ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME OR NETWORK BRIDGE NAME" full
netsh router ip nat add interface Internal private

15b) -Wait for cmd.exe to load that command and then let you enter a new command. Do the same for the all of the commands.
-Try entering every LAN connection name IN the quotation marks and including them in the command in Network Connections until cmd.exe actually executes the command. The name that I found out that I had to input was my network bridge name which is basically its title.
-Internal should be spelled in the language that your computer uses!!!!
16) Close cmd.exe and YOU ARE DONE CONFIGURING YOUR COMPUTER!!! CONGRATS. hehehe

BACK to your phone settings (you must only do this after configuring steps 1-13 in phone settings and all of the steps in the computer settings!!!)

14) Run gnubox.
15) In gnubox, go to Options --> 2box direct --> Bluetooth. Then, select your computer once Bluetooth searches and finds it.
16) Make sure your computer is on and working, you followed all of the steps shown IN THE ORDER THEY WERE GIVEN IN. Go into Web/Services --> Options --> Settings --> Default Access Point. Select your new access point/profile thingy which is "Bt".
17) FINISH !!! Simply go onto the internet on your phone now, and once you connect, your computer will make a Connection sound (it's kinda mystical-ish). You MAY get an error stating that your script is invalid, but then your phone will continue to try to connect and you will (it happened to me MANY times).

hidden Trick : NETWORK MONITOR

|

There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.
Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
Take apart the phone.
De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
The Network Monitor gives you the following information.

Carrier number
MS RX Level in DBM
Received signal quality
MS TX power level
C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99.
RTL (Radio link timeout).
Timeslot
Indication of the transmitter status
Information on the Network parameters.
TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).
Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).
MCC (Mobile country code)
MCN (Mobile network code)
LAC (Location area code)
Ciphering (On/Off)
Hopping (On/Off)
DTX (On/Off)
Discard cell barred information

By pressing x + # (where x is any number) will show the telephone number stored in that particular location.

For example, pressing 125 in idle mode and then pressing "#" later, will show the 125th number stored when the number are entered in your phone-book.

Trick to extend your NOKIA battery life

|

Turn off your Bluetooth
We find Bluetooth to be the most power hungry application; turn it off when you don’t use it

2. Disable sounds and vibrating alert
You don’t really need keypad tones to be on, do you? What about vibrating? It is surely useful on the meetings or in a cinema but most of time you’ll do just fine without it; I usually set up a vibrating profile to be used in places like cinema or theatre and in all other profiles I have vibrating turned off

3. Brightness
Lower the brightness of your screen; not too low, otherwise you’ll destroy your vision

4. Setting the Power saver time-out and the Light time-out to the low values will help too (you’ll find them in the display settings)

5. If you are not using an application switch it off
You’ll get a list of all active applications by long pressing the menu button; this is a general rule that can be applied to any device

6. Games
It’s fun to play games on your way to school but they are power-hungry beasts; We can’t tell you not to play games but think about your battery when you are playing

7. Turn off your phone when you don’t use it
We know that for many of you this is not an option and I’m not sure if turning it off and on is even good for your battery but I heard this tip from so many people that I just had to mention it

How-To: YouTubing on the N95 with Nokia Video Center

|

Watching YouTube videos on the N95 is a snap with the Nokia Video Center application. Inside: a quick 6-step tutorial and introduction to getting video services set up on your phone.

Getting YouTube on your Nokia N95.
he Nokia Video Center is the relatively little-known application in the Applications folder that makes all this video madness possible. To be honest, the program is really nothing more than a gloried RSS feed reader.

You aren't limited to just YouTube videos - Nokia's newly-updated list of video content partners now includes CNN, Reuters, Jamba, Sony, IBN, RooftopComedy, ROK, and Versaly Entertainment. Note that N95s from different regions may have different accessible videos. For example, CNN and IBN are only available on APAC-region N95 devices.

Please note that the Nokia Video Center is ONLY compatible with the Nokia N95.

Adding a Video Service to the Nokia Video Center in 6 Easy Steps

(1) The first thing you'll need to open up the Nokia Video Center application. By default, it's located in the Menu -> Applications folder.

(2) Upon loading, the Video Center will bring you to a menu with four options: Internet Videos, Add New Services, Nokia Nseries, and My Videos. A brief rundown on each:

  • Internet Videos lets you import an RSS feed to your Video Center.
  • Add New Services is the bread and butter of the application - this option will bring you to the Video Service Catalog and let you add specific content such as YouTube and Reuters.
  • Nokia Nseries lets you watch Nseries-themed clips and advertisements, mostly as a demonstration feature.
  • My Videos is the place where you'll find your downloaded clips.

Here we're interested in the Add New Services option. You'll need to add a separate service for each video content provider, but this only needs to be done once.

(3) The Video Service Catalog. Install new video services, or just learn more about them with the Info link. Right now, we're going to add the YouTube mobile video service to our main menu, so click the Install button. (4) You'll be greeted with a prompt asking you to confirm - hit the Ok button.

(5) Installation is fairly quick and painless, and should only take a couple of seconds at most. After it's done, hit the Close option (right softkey) to return to the main menu. You should see a new option now - YouTube Mobile Videos. That's the one we want, so hit the middle softkey to connect to YouTube's RSS feed.

(6) Finally! A list of current videos from YouTube with tiny thumbnails. Unfortunately, you can't control what shows up here, other than refreshing the list every couple of seconds. Select one of the videos and hit the Ok softkey, then Play at the next dialog box that pops up to watch your video.

The quality isn't the greatest, but the application and content are still works-in-progress.

Troubleshooting

Due to some kind of limitation with the software, you can't use WLAN to watch (most) videos. Particularly the YouTube and FreeBe TV ones, and probably most of the other ones too. Reuters does work, however. I don't know why it does this, but if you keep getting "File Not Found" errors when trying to play a video, this is probably the reason. For now, stick to EDGE/HSDPA. (and if you know how to fix this, I'd appreciate an email too - thanks)

Upgrade your Nokia N73 to have native Bluetooth Music (A2DP)

|

Basically you will need to change your N73’s product code and flash the new firmware to get the new exciting features!

Only firmware 4.07xx.x.x.x supports the new A2DP and the following updates (though it’s these are yet to be officially )

* New Music Player (same as in N73 Music edition)
* Camera improvements
* FOTA (Firmware updates Over The Air)

and so far only Product Code - 0529835 has the new firmware.

You can use the Nokia Software Updated Availability link to see if your own product code is updated (I’m guessing Nokia will roll this out slowly to the rest of the world)

Step 1 : Change product code on Nokia’s N73
——

You need the following softwares ;

1. NSS (Nemesis Service Suite) - to change the product code [Get it from http://bphreaks.brinkster.net/files/NSS/NSS103812.zip] - UPDATED

2. GSM-Magic - to help enable features on NSS [Get it from GSM Magic Program]

3. Nokia Software Update - Nokia’s own program to download the firmware and flash your mobile phone [It should come with the latest PC Suite, otherwise -Get it from http://www.nokia.com/A4176089 ]

- Instructions -

1) Connect your phone to computer, and choose PC-Suite mode in your mobile
2) Start NSS
3) Push “Scan for new device”
4) Go to Phone Info screen.
Enable the product code box in the right corner.
Change the number there to N73 ME product code number 0529835 into that product code box and then click that enable box.
(note your original N73 product code up, in case if you need it again).

5) Then click WRITE, and in few seconds click READ, and you’ll see that your phones product code has changed.
6) Then exit NSS and start NSU and follow the steps.
7) Wait for your mobile to update. This will take some time the firmware is about 60mb+ to download.

Step 2 : Update with Nokia Software Update (like usual)
——————————————————–

1. Launch Nokia Software Update and let it run its update!

PS: It’s 67mb worth of downloading. so it’s going to take a while. Make sure your mobile is charged!

The snakes game is somehow missing from the update - So if you miss it, here’s the link to download it back. [Get it from - http://europe.nokia.com/A4323689 ]
It’s the N95 page but will work for your newly flashed Nokia N73.

Enjoy your new full featured Nokia N73!

UPDATE! : Now you can skip Step 1! Just update your firmware via the NSU as Nokia as released it for the general public already! Make sure the firmware is 4.07.xxx.xxx

Listening to my music wirelessly (via Bluetooth - Motorola S9)!
July 3rd, 2007 by Optimus
Here’s the thing, I have always wanted to have a wireless way of listening to music ever since Bluetooth came about.More than a year ago, I got a i-Tech R35 headset that came with the 3rd Gen Ipod connector.. then sometime last year I got a 2nd hand black 4gb Nano to replace my 30gb one. Which I also eventually got the iTech Bluecon connector for it.

Now the Motorola S9 was brought to my attention from my best buddy and since we have been trying to hunt it down in Singapore. Shipping from US was a possibility but we got news that Motorola was giving it out as part of the Z6 phone bundle for a limited time.

I even went to my usual 2nd phone shops to try to see if I can get a deal out of it. No luck there.. but one of the sales guy mentioned that he had customers who got the phone and wanted to sell his S9. No contact number was left.. so again no luck…

Then out of pure luck, I searched Hardwarezone.com.sg and found a seller for the S9! Wohoo! After a few days, I managed to meet up with him and bought it on the spot!

The seller was kind enough to allow me to test it out completely before buying.. I managed to get it to work with my N73 (via MSI Blueplayer) but couldn’t get my Bluecon dongle for Nano set to work.

Creating an access point on your phone!

tools\settings\connection\access points\options\new access point>default settings...

these are the settings u need there..

Connection Name : Anything (sugestion ADLS or PCGPRS something u remember well cuz u'll need it later!)

Data Bearer: GPRS

Access Point Name: The name you gave to your bt connection when pairing up with the computer...

Username : None

Password : No

Authentication : Normal

Gateway IP Address : 0.0.0.0

and that's all on this on this part..

then go to:

tools/settings/connection, and select GPRS

set the GPRS connection to "when available", and the access point to "none".

The settings on your fone are done! now... the next step;

Create a serial port connection from ur pc to ur phone (u've done this before if u ever used Pcsuite from nokia), this serial connection must be on everytime you want to use your pc internet connection as a gprs connection for ur phone!!

Install the software u need to surf the web (opera, netfront, agile messenger for chat, etc..)

How-To: Speed Up Your Nokia N95 or S60 Phone

|

Let's face it: Symbian ain't exactly the fastest OS in existence. In fact, it can get pretty damn slow. So, direct from the Nokia Phone Blog, are some handy tips to fine-tune your Nokia N95 (or any other S60 phone) for speed without going completely insane.

How to speed up your Nokia N95 phone.
  1. Set your log duration to 1 day. Works wonders! Normally, the call log list defaults to 30 days, but that's completely unnecessary, at least from our speed point of view.

The method: Open up the Log application, hit options (left softkey), and select the Settings option. Change the Log duration to (optimally) 1 day, or you can try 10 days. Either way, it should give you a noticeable speed increase.

Enter the Log application's Options menu.

    Select the Settings option..

Change the log duration to 1 day.

  2. Use the Edit key to select multiple entries. Here's a little known tip that I found out quite accidentally: when browsing a list of markable items, hold down the Edit key and use the directional keys to mark (check) multiple items quick and easily. Really handy when you want to delete a lot of text messages, for example, or when you want to add pictures to an album. Unfortunately, due to the way it was programmed, the Edit key doesn't individually mark an item when pressed once - you need to keep it held down and just use the arrow keys to select items.
Use the Edit Key to select multiple items in a list.
  3. Use keypad shortcuts when browsing the Menu. Whether your Menu is in grid or list mode, you can use the numerical keypad to quickly jump to an item. It's easy to see with the grid option enabled - each key corresponds to the item that's on the menu (12 items, 12 keys). So if you wanted to open the application in the bottom right corner, just hit the # (pound) key. Note that accessing menu items with this method actually executes the application or folder, instead of just selecting the item.

On a similar note, some phones have Icon Animation on by default - this adds a 3D "twisting" effect to your Theme icons. It doesn't work with custom application icons, and is generally pretty useless. Turn it off by hitting the menu key -> Options -> Icon Animation.

Turn off Icon Animations in menus for a little speed-up.

  4. Go through text messages faster with Nokia Conversation. Conversation is an interface extension cooked up in Nokia's Beta labs that lets you read text messages by sender, instead of some huge jumbo list of texts. Another benefit: you can also delete by sender, which is great for cutting people out of your life!

Once you've installed the Nokia Contacts Support Services Package and Nokia Conversation, you can access the extension by going to Contacts and hitting the
    right arrow key.

    Download Nokia Conversation

  5. Keypad shortcuts work on the Clock application too. This will probably save you a grand total of one, maybe two keystrokes. In the pre-installed Clock application, typing in a number key at the default screen creates a new Alarm with the hour already filled in.

    That's all.

  6. The multimedia menu: disable everything. There's a wealth of useless options when it comes to the Multimedia Menu. Custom background images, imgae effects, "menu sounds", and start-up animation. Shut everything off for maximum speed. The background image option should be set to Graphics -> Themes, which should just display the current theme's default background instead of loading another one.

Honestly though, the multimedia menu always seems to be one of the slowest things ever.

Turn off all the options relating to the Multimedia Menu.

  7. Finally, keep your phone's firmware updated! All right, that was a cheap one. But seriously, sometimes Nokia actually improves the user interface a bit - take the latest N95 firmware, for example, which speeds up the Gallery by removing the mean bug that caused the gallery menu to appear for a second or two before (slowly) sliding off the screen.
